JHASLA has been spreading consciousness among citizens to promote and motivate the people to settle their disputes through Alternate Dispute Redressal mechanisms and to transmit knowledge about the rights, remedies and duties for justice seekers and Justice providers through workshops.
Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA) has opened Mediation Conciliation Centre at various places as under:
- Jharkhand High Court Mediation & Conciliation Centre
- Mediation Centre at District Court, Ranchi.
- Mediation Centre at District Court, Jamshedpur.
- Mediation Centre at District Court, Dhanbad.
- Mediation Centre at District Court, Hazaribag.
- Mediation Centre at District Court, Bokaro.
The above said Mediation Centres are running full-fledged and responses are good. The table given below showing the details of cases received & Cases settled by said Mediation Centres till January 2009:

More Mediation Centres to be opened in the other Districts of State of Jharkhand by JHALSA.
Apart from the above other 5 Mediation Centres are under process of establishment and work for infrastructure is going on which are as follows:
- Mediation Centre,Chaibasa
- Mediation Centre,Deoghar
- Mediation Centre,Dumka
- Mediation Centre,Giridih
- Mediation Centre,Palamau
JHALSA is striving to institutionalise Mediation under MCPC, New Delhi by (i) Creating Awareness and (ii) Imparting Intensive Training on Mediation. Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA) along with Judicial Academy has been involved in creating AWARENESS about the benefits of Mediation among the common masses and also has been holding and organising seminar, workshop and symposium on ADR and mediation U/s 89 of Code of Civil Procedure. Further JHALSA and Judicial Academy have been conducting Intensive TRAINING Programmes of 40 Hours + 10 successful mediation for Judicial Officers, advocates to become good mediators and coordinators and also sensitizing programmes for the referral judges under the guidance of Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee of Supreme Court of India. Continuous training for Judicial Officers and Advocates are going on from all the 22 Districts of Jharkhand in order to develop efficient Mediators.
A. MEDIATION AWARENESS PROGRAMME:
I. Awareness programme On Mediation:
(17th to 20th November, 2006)
An Awareness cum Mediation training programme was organized at Judicial Academy, Jharkhand from 17th to 20th November, 2006 where Judicial Officers from different District Courts of Jharkhand State have participated. During the programme practical training for doing Mediation was also organised in the Campus of Civil Court, Ranchi where a number of cases were settled. Sri M.L. Mehta Addl. District Judge –and the then Co-ordinator of Mediation Centre, Karkardooma, and Sri S.K. Jain Addl. District Judge and the then Mediator, Mediation Centre, Tis Hazari, New Delhi were the resource persons of said programme.Hon'ble Mr. Justice SB Sinha, Judge, Supreme Court of India was the Chief guest of the said programme under whose guidance the Awareness –cum- Sensitizing programme on Mediation was organized.
II. East India Regional Conference on Mediation:
(8th & 9th March 2008)
An "East India Regional Conference on Mediation" (Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Orissa and West Bengal) was held on 8th & 9th March 2008 at IICM, Ranchi under the aegis of Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee of Supreme Court of India to create awareness and understanding of Mediation and further to impart Intensive Mediation Training to Judicial Officers and Advocates for becoming good Mediators, Referral Judges and Co-coordinators. In the said meeting a resolution inter-alia, was passed, to constitute East India Regional Mediation Centre at Ranchi by JHALSA for imparting intensive mediation training of 40 hrs + 10 actual mediations and also for doing actual mediation.
B. INTENSIVE MEDIATION TRAINING PROGRAMME
Intensive Mediation Training of Five Regional States :(11th June to 15th June, 2008)
In the light of Resolution passed in the "East India Regional Conference on Mediation" held on 8th & 9th March 2008 an "Intensive Mediation Training" was organised by JHALSA in association with Judicial Academy, Jharkhand, at Ranchi from 11th June to 15th June,2008 (Wednesday-Sunday) participated by 5 States namely: Bihar, Chhatisgarh, Jharkhand, Orissa and West Bengal under the aegis of Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee of Supreme Court of India, New Delhi.
In the said process an Intensive Mediation Training Programme of 40 hr. training and 10 actual Mediations was organized from 11th to 15th June, 2008 at IICM, Kanke, Ranchi. In the said programme Intensive Mediation Training Programme was provided to 35 candidates, from five states namely: Jharkhand, Bihar, Orissa, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal.The details of said Intensive Training Programme is as follows:
